Using Hugo and My Goals

2023-03-10

Intro

This blog was created with Hugo.

It’s a neat little static-site generator built in Go. The Go part is relevant because while I don’t plan to hack on the tool directly, the option of have a static binary rather than needing to configure an environment (for example Jekyll in Ruby) is a nice quality of life feature.

The markdown syntax for editing these files is nice since I prefer working in plain text and vim.

Goals

My goal is to link to all the other static files I developed using this blog as my front page. I may even get a chance to start to document some of the work I’m doing on SNES development.

I’ve always liked to do creative work in art and music but my real passion and livelihood is as a software developer. The Super NES was the first console I ever owned as child and I hold a deep nostalgia for it. I’ve never considered myself much of a “gamer” at least in the sense of how it exists as a sub-genre. I have zero interest in the ROM hacking scene or building yet another Super Mario level pack to entertain speed-runners looking for a challenge. (Though, I do have a deep respect for them since it contributes to the same base of knowledge). Instead, I use it to further my own creative skills: Learning animation; 8/16-bit art; improving my music skills; to name a few.
